Terms of use

The rules. Short, and meant to be read.

By creating an account or publishing anything on LinkIt, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use LinkIt.

Last updated 12 October 2026

The short version

LinkIt is a free student project, not a company. It may break, go offline or lose data. Keep your own copy of everything.

You are the publisher of your sites and responsible for what is on them. No phishing, no malware, nothing illegal, nothing you don’t have the rights to, and no using LinkIt as free infrastructure for something else.

If a site breaks these rules we can take it down and close the account — without warning when it is urgent.

Who we are

What LinkIt is

LinkIt lets students publish websites: upload a zip, and it is served at an address like yourproject.linkitapp.ch.

It is run by Diego Segura as a student project. It is not a company, it is free, and nobody is paid to keep it running. In these terms, “we” and “us” means that person; “you” means you, the account holder. Student at University of Neuchâtel

Accounts

Your account

  • Use a real email address that you can read. It is how you confirm your account and reset your password.
  • One account per person. Don’t create extra accounts to get around limits.
  • Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what is done with your account.
  • Your limits are set once, when you sign up, from the domain of your email address — see Limits.

Responsibility

What you publish is yours — and on you

You are the publisher. Everything on a site you deploy is published by you, not by LinkIt. We don’t review sites before they go live, and we don’t endorse what is on them. You are responsible for your content, for anything your site does in a visitor’s browser, and for any data your site collects from its visitors.

You keep your rights. You own what you upload. You give us permission to store, copy, build and serve it, only as far as needed to run LinkIt and publish your site. That permission ends when you delete the project, apart from copies that take time to clear (see the privacy notice).

It is public. Anyone with the address can open your site, whether or not it is listed on Explore.

Acceptable use

What you may not host

These are not allowed on LinkIt, in any file, whether or not anyone ever visits it:

  • Phishing and impersonation. Anything that pretends to be a bank, a payment service, a university, an email provider, LinkIt itself or anyone else — especially a page that asks for passwords, card numbers or other credentials. This includes “just a demo” copies of a real login page: they are indistinguishable from the real thing to the people they fool, and to the services that block domains for hosting them.
  • Malware. Viruses, ransomware, spyware, keyloggers, drive-by downloads, cryptocurrency miners that run in visitors’ browsers, or links and redirects whose purpose is to deliver any of these.
  • Scams and deception. Fake shops, fake giveaways, investment schemes, spam landing pages, or forms that collect people’s data without telling them honestly what for.
  • Illegal content. Anything illegal under Swiss law, including child sexual abuse material (reported to the police without exception), content that incites hatred or violence against people, and threats or harassment.
  • Content you don’t have the rights to. Copies of other people’s software, films, music, books, fonts, photos or course material, unless you are allowed to publish them. Using someone else’s trademark in a way that confuses people about who is behind your site.
  • Other people’s personal data published without their agreement — addresses, phone numbers, photos, grades, private messages.
  • Abuse of the platform. Using LinkIt as file hosting, a download mirror or a content delivery network for something that is not your site; using builds to mine cryptocurrency or do anything other than build your site; trying to break out of the build sandbox, read other people’s files or get into their accounts; attacking LinkIt or anyone else from it; or creating accounts to get around limits or a previous suspension.

If you are not sure whether something is allowed, ask [email protected] before publishing it.

Enforcement

What we can do about it

If we believe a site or an account breaks these terms, or puts LinkIt or others at risk, we may, at our discretion:

  • take the site offline, or delete the project and its files;
  • remove it from Explore;
  • suspend or delete your account.

Without notice when necessary. A live phishing page or malware comes down first, and we explain afterwards. For anything less urgent we will usually email you first and give you a chance to fix it.

To decide, we may look at the files and build logs of the project involved. We are not obliged to monitor what is hosted, and deciding not to act on something is not approval of it. If you think we got it wrong, reply to our email or write to [email protected].

We may pass information to the police or other authorities when the law requires it or when we have to report a crime.

Limits

Limits exist, and may change

Each account gets these limits, decided when you sign up:

AccountEveryone
Live at once3
Projects kept10
Storage250 MB
AccountUniversité de Neuchâtel (@unine.ch)
Live at once5
Projects kept15
Storage250 MB

Every deploy

  • Zip file up to 15 MB, with at most 800 files and 60 MB once unzipped.
  • A built React / Vite site of at most 100 MB and 5,000 files.
  • Builds are stopped if they run too long or use too much memory.
  • A limited number of deploys per hour, and one deploy at a time.

We may change any of these limits at any time — for the whole service, or for one account that is using far more than its share. Where lowering a limit would take down something you already have, we will try to warn you first.

No warranty

No guarantees

LinkIt is provided as it is, and as available. It is a student project run by one person in their spare time, and we promise nothing about it:

  • No uptime guarantee. Sites and the dashboard may be slow, unavailable or down for long periods.
  • No guarantee your data is safe from loss. LinkIt backs up its database every night and keeps each backup for 30 days, but your site’s files are not backed up, and a backup is no promise that anything can be recovered. A bug, an outage or a mistake can delete your projects, files or account. Always keep your own copy of anything you upload.
  • No guarantee that LinkIt suits any purpose — including coursework with a deadline.
  • Features may change or disappear, and LinkIt itself may shut down.

Liability

Liability

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage from using LinkIt, or from not being able to use it — including lost data, lost work or missed deadlines. This does not limit liability for intent or gross negligence, which Swiss law does not allow to be excluded.

If someone makes a claim against us because of something you published, you are responsible for it, not us.

Ending

Ending

You can stop using LinkIt at any time. There is no “delete my account” button yet: email [email protected] and we delete it by hand. What that removes, and when, is in the privacy notice.

We can close your account under What we can do, and we can shut LinkIt down entirely. If we shut it down, we will try to email you in advance so you can save your work.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and we email account holders about changes that matter. Using LinkIt after a change means you accept the new terms.

Governing law

Swiss law

These terms are governed by Swiss law. The courts of Neuchâtel have jurisdiction, unless the law gives you the right to go to court somewhere else — for example in the country where you live.
